Cantonment to have alternative routes for general public - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: With the Army's decision on the closure of Gough road for civilian traffic creating a lot of stir, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) with the aid of local military authorities (LMA) drafted a plan to construct alternative roads between Safilguda and entrenchment road in Marredpally and from Safilguda railway gate to RK Puram flyover.

After a public outrage faced in commuting, Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar asked the Telangana government to come up with alternative roads for public feasibility and also allowed the Gough Road till June 31 for public use.

The GHMC and LMA conducted a survey on December12 to find out the lands under defence areas. To lay alternative roads GHMC has sought 37.5 acre deference land.

GHMC requires 27.50 acres to lay either a six-lane or 100-feet alternative road from Safilguda and entrenchment road in Marredpally. While to lay an alternative route from Safilguda railway gate and RK Puram flyover GHMC requires 10 acres either to build four-lane road or 60-feet road.

GHMC said that it requires 18 months to complete the task which would cost Rs 98.80 crore.

B Janardhan Reddy GHMC commissioner said that the work would take place immediately when the Ministry of Defence gives approval of 37.5 acre defence land.
