Bus transport service launched to improve safety of women
The Cyberabad police in association with the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) started 40 bus services in the Cyberabad infotech corridor here today, as part of its measures to improve safety, security and convenience of software professionals, especially women.
APSRTC Managing Director A K Khan and Cyberabad Police Commissioner C V Anand launched the services in Cyberabad and 40 buses will run with a total of 326 trips from different points in the infotech corridor.
The aim of the service is to improve APSRTC bus services in Cyberabad so that women and other infotech professionals had a safer alternative to autos and cabs, an official release said. Women and infotech professionals were asked to make use of the bus service facilities for safer and more convenient travel, the release said, adding efforts to improve transportation in the area would continue.
It may be mentioned that a 22-year-old woman infotech employee was kidnapped and raped allegedly by two cab drivers Satish and Venkateshwarlu in Cyberabad last month, after offering a lift to the victim.
