Blow To Congress In Karnataka: SM Krishna Set To Join BJP
In a development of far-reaching political consequences, the BJP has confirmed that Congress stalwart and Karnataka former chief minister SM Krishna will soon join the BJP. State BJP president BS Yediyurappa said the date of his joining would soon be announced.
SM Krishna, a long-time Congress leader, had resigned from the Congrss. He submitted his resignation from the Congress Working Committee and the primary membership of the party. Hugely experienced and known for clean administration, Krishna said he was disillusioned with the Congress.
"But, his joining the party is 100 per cent confirmed,"" Yediyurappa said.

Though some sections said he would retire from active politics, another section close to the Vokkaliga patriarch said he would join the BJP. This has been confirmed by Yediyurappa himself. Yediyurappa, a Lingayat, and SM Krishna, a Vokkaliga, could prove a powerful combination in caste-ridden Karnataka politicians and would immensely benefit the BJP in the poll-bound state to reclaim power.

This will be seen as a setback to the Congress, which is riven with factionism. Siddaramaiah's popularity graph is plummeting and the leaving of SM Krishna, the Vokkaliga face of the party, could deal a strong flow to its prospects.
