Bengaluru To Get India’s First Times Square
In a first of its kind project, the Karnataka government is pondering to build a ‘Bengaluru Square’ that resembles the famous Times Square in New York City. City mayor stated that the grand landmark will be at one of Bengaluru’s popular spots – the intersection at Residency Road and Brigade Road in the central business district.
“ We want the city to have a Bengaluru Square similar to Times Square. Bengaluru is fast becoming a global city, and there should be something to celebrate that. We have asked Swati Ramanathan, the brain behind TenderSURE, to start working on a detailed project report,“ said Bengaluru Mayor Sampath Raj.
The Mayor made the comments during a reopening of the city’s Church Street, which was relaid on Thursday. The stretch had largely remained out of bounds for the past year as rain and other factors.
It is learnt that BBMP officials have extensive plans to transform the Brigade road junction into a prominent tourist destination.
“ We will convey their demand to the authorities concerned. Church Street will also have easy access to the upcoming pod taxi service,” he said.
