BCs can now avail Kalyana Lakshmi

Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Thursday issued orders to include the backward classes in the list of beneficiaries who can avail the one-time financial assistance through the Kalyana Lakshmi scheme.

The Kalyana Lakshmi scheme which was initially available to the SCs and STs, provided a one-time financial assistance of Rs. 51,000 to unmarried girls, at the time of their wedding. KCR had subsequently promised to extend this benefit to the educationally and economically BCs as well.

The Kalyana Lakshmi scheme will be implemented for the BCs from April 1, 2016.

Jogu Ramanna, the minister for Backward Classes Welfare, revealed that 58,000 beneficiaries would be identified on a first-served basis. The eligibility guidelines are to be strictly followed by the government.
