Bathukamma Going Global
Hyderabad: Telangana’s very own traditional festival ‘Bathukamma’ is poised to reach new frontiers thanks to the efforts put in by Telangana Jagruti, which has prepared an action plan for celebrating the ‘festival of flowers’ in countries where Telanganaites live in large numbers.
When people talk of Onam, people will immediately recall Kerala. We want a similar automatic association in the country and abroad of Bathukamma with Telangana.
K Kavitha, TRS MP from Nizamabad and President of Telangana Jagruti, will visit eight countries as part of the Bathukamma celebrations overseas from September 30 onwards. The Bathukamma festival is scheduled to be celebrated in the US, UK, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, Dubai, Bahrain and Kuwait.
Bathukamma festival reflects several things about women and their thoughts that are expressed through songs.
Kavitha said: “Over next 15 days of my tour beginning on September 30, Telangana Jagriti will create awareness of Bathukamma festival among other Indians and foreigners as well. This tour is as part of Telangana Jagruti’s initiative and the state government is not involved in the celebration of the festival in abroad.”
The Bathukamma festival will be celebrated in all these eight countries, Telangana Jagriti is inviting Seemandhra people, who’re in these nations to participate. “This will create solidarity among all Telugu people. We are also trying to involve local public representatives in those countries over Bathukamma,” said Kavitha.
