Ban on media undemocratic: Journalists’ union - Sakshi Post

“It is an act of suffocating freedom of the press and undemocratic way of approach for a leader like Chandrababu Naidu to impose restrictions on Sakshi TV, Sakshi newspaper and T News”, observed Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) on Thursday.

In a letter to TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, APWUJ leaders Amar, Somasundar and Narendra Reddy maintained that it was the responsibility of everyone to protect the freedom of the press in the democratic system. It was improper to take such decisions as it was equal to the strangling of freedom of the press.

The media has great responsibilities in highlighting people’s issues and a senior leader like Naidu, who was the chief minister for nine-long years, should not impose prohibition on the media. The letter also mentioned that the political parties must ensure top priority for newspapers and other media in the democratic system.
