Balapur Laddu fetches Rs 9.50 lakh
The famous laddu of the famous Balapur Ganes has fetched a record Rs. 9.50 lakh this time.
This is Rs 25000 more than the last year's sum. The auctioning held ahead of the Ganesha immersion procession on Monday morning was a huge affair.
Singireddy Jayender Reddy bid the record sum to take possession of the laddu, weighing about 21 kgs, which he plans to distribute among his kith and kin. Last year, ex-Mayor Tegala Krishna Reddy had bid highest amount of Rs. 9.26 lakh.
The auctioning of laddus at Ganesh pandals began in 1980. The money generated through the auctions is usually used for the development of the neighbourhood. The money was used to renovate an old temple in the village.
Muslims too participate
Even Muslims had participated in the bidding on more than three occasions. “It is believed that the ‘laddu’ brings good luck to the bidder and many come forward to participate in the auction due to this reason. After bidding, the winner distributes it among the villagers and also sprinkles the laddu powder in the fields for a better crop,” says president of Utsav Committee.
