Hyderabad: The most precious Prasadam of Ganesh festival season - Balapur Ganesh Laddu - got a record Rs15.60 lakh this time. The amount is Rs95,000 higher than the last year's Laddu which was brought by a local leader Skylab Reddy for Rs14.65 lakh.

An Ayyappa Society resident Nagam Tirupathi Reddy owned the Balapur Ganesh Laddu by paying Rs15.60 lakh in the auction. A native of Vanaparthy district, Tirupathi Reddy said it was his dream come true as he wanted to own the Laddu for several years now. "Finally I had the blessings of Lord Ganesh to own the Laddu," an elated Reddy said.

The Balapur Ganesh Laddu auction is a special attraction in the festival every year since 1994. The Laddu got just Rs450 in the first year auction, but as the people started believing that it would bring good fortunes for the highest bidder, the competition for the ownership of the Laddu has been increasing year after year.

The money earned from the auction is spent on the development of the village and welfare activities.
