Rio de Janeiro: Hundreds of sportspersons have moved into the Olympic Village that seems to have left behind the problems which generated complaints when it first opened on July 24.

The head of Australia’s Olympic delegation, Kitty Chiller, said that her team had identified about 200 problems in their building where Australia occupies 15 floors

“I’ve been here in previous months to train and, well, at the last moment, it seems to work well,” Spanish canoeist Maialen Chourraut said.

The delegations of Belarus, Argentina and Australia earlier criticised the poor conditions of the facilities.

“I heard that there are many problems, like in the bathroom without hot water, or toilets that do not flush,” said Taku Murakami, a member of the Japanese gymnastics team.

With so much criticism, the Olympics Organising Committee redoubled efforts to make the village “impeccable”.

Murakami said that since his arrival on July 26, many problems have been taken care of and he is confident that the organisation will be able to organise “everything” in the coming days.
