Srinagar: An Army officer who tied a Kashmiri youth to a moving jeep as a shield against stone pelters has been given a clean chit by the Court of Inquiry. The Army ordered a probe by the Court of Inquiry after police registered an FIR for the incident which created an uproar. There was a widespread condemnation of the act by various politicians, including former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Army sources said Major Nitin Gogol has been praised by the Court of Inquiry for "presence of mind to avoid casualties or injuries".

The video was put up Omar Abdullah on his Twitter handle on April 14 captioning it, "This young man was TIED to the front of an army jeep to make sure no stones were thrown at the jeep? This is just so shocking!!!! #Kashmir."
