Army Chief calls on Andhra CM, Governor


Army Chief General Bikram Singh today called on Andhra Pradesh Governor E S L Narasimhan and Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.

The Army Chief was on an official visit to the city and he paid courtesy visits to the Governor and the Chief Minister, official sources said.

General Singh requested the Chief Minister to allocate land to the Army for setting up a Field Firing Range in Anantapur district. He wanted the state government to expedite the land acquisition process for the purpose, a press release from the Chief Minister's Office said.

The Army Chief also requested the state government to allocate 1,500 sq yards of land in district headquarters towns for poly-clinics for ex-service persons.

A request has also been made for allotment of lands near urban areas for the `Jai Jawan Aawas Yojana'.

General Singh thanked the Chief Minister for allotting seven acres of land at Jawahar Nagar, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, for the JJAY scheme.

General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Lt Gen A K Singh and Lt Gen V K Pillai accompanied the Army Chief.
