Are We Paying The Price Of Our Support System?

Every individual’s growth is dependent on a support system  - Sakshi Post

For our growth and prosperity in life, we want others to support us either directly or indirectly - or at least by their positive intentions for us. No individual's growth comes by his own effort but we all need a support system. Unless people around us lend their hands, it's almost impossible for anyone to achieve growth or prosperity. By default we expect others to support our growth.

At the same time, we must realize that others also expect a similar support from us, either directly or indirectly - or at least in our intentions, for their own growth and prosperity. Ironically, we most probably tend not to give the support the way we expect from others.

This tendency seems to be there in most of us, if not all of us. Here's an incident which gave me more clarity on the 'selfish' mentality that exists in most of us.

It was a bright sunny day when a friend wanted to speak to me and we agreed to meet on coffee and chat about it. He seemed to be in some kind of confusion whether to open up or not. On my assurance to help him find a solution to his situation through some fresh perspective he finally opened up.

He has an employee in his company who deserved an increment for his outstanding performance. The employee was very dependable and would handle his responsibilities on his own. No supervision is required once the work is assigned and he did it with all the zeal and enthusiasm.

His salary was already high when compared to the market benchmark. My friend thought that he was already paying him well and an increment would push his package further above the average. Also, he also must be thinking that there should be a cap on his salary otherwise in next ten years he might be a very highly paid employee in the organization.

I could clearly understand that my friend is quite peaceful because of the employee in question, who was handling all his important tasks; he takes up the ownership even when the owner is not around and never allows anything to be delayed due to his absence.

There is a cost to everything we enjoy. We get a dependable person who works with all his heart and zeal to make our life easier so it is important to value that commitment and performance.

"If you go to a mall or for shopping you pay the price for the infrastructure and comfort it offers than a random shop in the market where you have to search for things all by yourself; right?" I said.

You are ready to pay the extra premium for that extra comfort and support system which keeps the cleanliness and air conditioning in the mall; this is also a kind of luxury that you are enjoying at your office due to that employee and the least you can do is to feel grateful for his commitment and constribution for your comfort and also your growth. The only way you can thank the universe is by giving him an increment and make him happy to maintain his motivation to continue working even more efficiently.

While I was talking to him I saw a convincing smile on his face and his grin got wide as he understood the point I was trying to make. I gave him my peace of mind and came out but there was a sudden change within me to look at people who were working for my support system like my driver due to whom our living becomes so effortless. He knows the directions. I can concentrate on my work and other

things while he drives for me instead of concentrating on how he is driving because he is an expert driver.

He can handle so many jobs for me and my family because he knows all of us and our needs. The colleagues as a team, those help me, to take leaves and breaks and take up my job, while I am away. The cook, who lovingly cooks and makes my functioning more effective and saves my time. The same job can be done at an average perfection but the way it’s done for us which satisfies us makes it ideal for us.

This gave me an insight that we sometimes become stingy about certain things and the only way to be grateful to the universe for all these support systems is to pay them their due irrespective of the market benchmarks. It is the effortless living which we are paying for. It’s the trust you can place in them; not just the value of their work. It’s the peace that they give us to handle other things.

We hardly mind to pay to that shop at the mall but given a choice we don’t want to give our thank you for all the support systems which make our life so comfortable; it may be anybody who works for us or around us to ensure that we are able to concentrate on other important facets of our mundane life.

"There is bliss in everything we get as a support from this universe. The only way to enjoy the bliss is to be grateful for all of them."
