AP Govt Proposes 3 Places For Setting Up Of High Court Before June 2
Hyderabad: Following the Centre's decision to set up separate High Courts for AP and Telangana on Tuesday, the Aandhra Pradesh government wrote to the Chief Justice of the Hyderabad High Court indicating three temporary accommodations, each of two lakh square feet, for the construction of court in Amaravati.
The law department of the AP government submitted the letter though AP Advocate-General Dammalapati Srinivas.
Sources revealed that the state government has requested the Chief Justice to constitute the judges committee that will visit the places shortlisted and decide whether they are suitable for the High Court, and convey their decision to the state government by the end of January 2018.
The government expressed its willingness to make modifications in whichever building the committee finds suitable and have it ready by the end of April 2018.
The AP government also suggested that court records and other relevant material can be moved from Hyderabad to the new accommodation at Vijayawada during the summer vacation period of the High Court, from April 30 to June 1, 2018, and the new High Court can start functioning from June 2.
Sources said that after getting the letter from the state government, Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan is convening the Full Court meeting on Wednesday to take further steps.
Sources in the judiciary disclosed that the five senior-most judges will likely to be on the committee to inspect the buildings identified by the state government.
On December 28, Union law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had told the Lok Sabha that the AP government would allow the High Court to be established in Amaravati and had selected four buildings.
