AP Couple Claims Surat Rape Victim Is Their Daughter
Gujarat police on Friday arrested a person from Ahmedabad in connection with rape and assassination of an unidentified little girl in Surat, an event that shook the entire nation. The accused, identified as Harsh Sahay Gurjar, was held from Ganganagar in Rajasthan's Sawai Madhopur district, said Gujarat's Home Secretary Pradeepsinh Jadeja.
A breakthrough came after investigators were rescued on a black car at the crime scene while watching the CCTV movie of Pandesara area where the victim's body was found.
The car owner was discovered to be a stone contractor in Rajasthan, in which the girl and her mother are considered to be working.
The contractor told police that his brother had gone to Rajasthan in that car and he suspected his involvement, said Jadeja, the news agency PTI .
"Since the accused joined the car to Rajasthan, the contractor told the police that he suspected his brother might be behind the crime," said Jadeja.
Meanwhile, a couple from Andhra Pradesh approached Surat police after later released two pictures of the victim on social media, claiming that neither my victim could be their lost daughter.
"A man from Andhra Pradesh contacted us today with some of his family members and claimed that the girl whose body was found on April 6 was his daughter. He said she had left in October last year, says Surat Police Commissioner Satish Sharma.
"The man said his statement was based on the fact that the image of his missed daughter matched the victim's victim. He also furnished an Aadhaar card of his missing daughter. We are not yet sure that the victim is his daughter. we match their DNA samples to verify the claim, says Sharma.
However, the police believe that a woman's body was discovered near the crime scene, three to four days after the body's body was found, is probably the mother.
"We believe that He has killed them both. We will conduct DNA tests to verify if there is a relationship between the woman and the girl, "said Jadeja.
The little girl's body believed to be in the age group 9 to 11 years found from a cricket field in the Bhutan area, Surat on April 6, with 86 injury marks.
After a five-hour post mortem, it was revealed that the girl was raped and tortured for at least eight days and later.
A particular prosecutor would be appointed for a quick trial to bring the accused to justice, the minister added.
