Pressure Pushes Girl To Suicide In Jadcherla

Hyderabad: A Class 10 student committed suicide by hanging herself to a ceiling fan at her house in Jadcherla in Mahbubnagar district in the early hours on Monday.

Kotha Sandhya(15), daughter of Gopal, left a suicide note stating that she could not handle the pressure related to studies. Gopal, a home guard, said that Sandhya was doing her homework till late into the night and took up her work again early in the morning on most days. She complained of pressure at school for better ranks, her father said. She was a student at Udaya Memorial High School in town. Her family and classmates were shocked by the death of Sandhya.

Students committing suicide due to pressure at school has reached alarming levels with over a dozen students resorting to the extreme step in recent times in both Telangana and AP. Parents worried over the trend are urging the government to take measures to prevent school managements from pressurizing students for higher scores and ranks.
