Another Jolt to Maoists: Six Naxals Killed In Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada
In another major reversal to the outlawed Maoists, a joint team of District Reserve Group, Central Reserve Police Force, Special Task force and Sukma DRG felled six Naxalites in a late night operation in Matempara and Gondpalli forest areas in Chattisgarh's troubled Dantewada district.
Of the six dead Maoists, three were males and the other uniformed females. Two Maoists are reportedly in police custody.
This is the second biggest attack on the Maoists after the Malkangiri encounter, where 30 Naxals, including some top leaders, were killed. It is also believed that two Maoists are in police custody.
According to Dantewada SP Kamalochan Kashyap, the police teams were conducting combing operations in the Matempara and Gondpalli villages based on specific inputs. They encountered Naxals, who fired on them indiscriminately forcing the cops to retaliate. After half-hour gun battle, the police recovered six bodies, one 303 rifle, a 315 gun, 12 bore double barrel rifle and nine kitbags.
The operations are still on, the cops said.
