Chittoor Couple Seek Euthanasia For Their Girl Child
Chittoor: A couple from Madanapally have moved the Chittoor court in Andhra Pradesh seeking permission for mercy killing of their one-year-old daughter, as they are unable to afford her treatment costs.
Bawajan and Shabana a poor Muslim couple who live in BC Colony of B. Kottakota block in in Madanapally town of Chittoor district filed a petition at the District court on Thursday, seeking permission for euthanasia for their daughter Reddi Suhana (1yr) who is suffering from hypoglycaemia and neuro developmental disabilities.
As per details, the couple were married eight years ago. They had two boys, but unfortunately both the boys were diagnosed with hypoglycemia at the time of birth and both of them died very early.
Last year they had a baby girl and even before the child reached one year, they noticed her growth was stunted. When they took her to the doctors and she was also diagnosed with hypoglycemia, which seemed to be a rare congenital condition faced by their children at birth.
The couple stated in their petition they had already spent more than Rs 12 lakh on her treatment at various hospitals in Madanapally and Bengaluru, but her condition did not improve. They also said to ensure her sugar levels stay normal ,they had to give her four injections per day and each injection cost Rs 2,400,.
Stating that they sold their property and jewellery for their daughter's treatment, the couple said they were no longer in a position to bear the expenses and hence mercy killing be permitted.
The couple first filed a petition with the JMFC Court, but the Judge said they could not entertain such plea and asked them to approach the District Court, hence they filed a plea for euthanasia.
