Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy instructed officials to increase stockyard points for sand disbursal and avoid any kind of inconvenience for the people, on Wednesday. Speaking in a review meeting held in the Secretariat at Tadepalli regarding the sand mining situation in the State after the floods, he directed officials to install CC TV cameras in all check posts to curb illegal transportation of sand.

He said that apart from installing CC cameras, a system to monitor the CC TV footage should also be put in place. YS Jagan said that special stockyards for bulk users should be considered to be set up. The Chief Minister expressed his anger that a section of people were trying to defame the Government as it has taken a tough stance on sand mafia. He directed officials to avoid any form of criticism and take necessary steps to curb corruption at all levels.

The Chief Minister also directed officials to stay alert and inform consumers and builders when there is shortage of sand. That way they will plan their construction accordingly, he said.

Officials appraised the Chief Minister that due to heavy rains and floods, it was difficult to dig sand and transport it from the reaches. They informed him that they were able to dig from only 25 reaches and the sand dug from riversides were washed away due to the floods. YS Jagan said that officials should ensure that sand should be dug as soon as the waters recede at the right time.

Currently 23,000 metric tonnes of sand is available. After analyzing the first three days of the situation from when the sand mining policy came into effect from September 2nd, officials said that there was a demand of 10 to 12 thousand metric tonnes of sand in the State. They also informed that transportation was functioning at about 90 percent. They said that demand for sand was being ascertained, based on the concrete purchases in the State.
