YS Jagan Remembers Pingali Venkayya
Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday remembered the designer of India'a national flag Pingali Venkayya on his 142nd birth anniversary.
YS Jagan tweeted, "Remembering #PingaliVenkayya garu, architect of our National Flag on his birth anniversary. He was an eminent personality from Andhra Pradesh and a revered freedom fighter. His contribution towards the freedom struggle was truly monumental and made him forever immortal."
Born on August 2, 1876, Pingali Venkayya was a freedom fighter and a renowned geologist and educationist. He hailed from Bhatlapenumarru village, Movva Mandalam in Krishna district.
He passed away on died on July 4, 1963. However, despite so many contributions and achievements to his name, Pingali Venkayya died in penury.
To mark his 142nd birth anniversary, school children carried a 142 metre length of National Flag at Jagadamba Junction in Vishakhapatnam on Thursday.
