New District To Be Named After Alluri Sitarama Raju: Avanthi Srinivas

Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh Tourism Minister Avanthi Srinivas paid rich tributes to Alluri Sitarama Raju on the occasion of the freedom fighter's 122nd birth Anniversary here on Thursday.

The Minister paid homage to Alluri Sitarama Raju's by garlanding his statue at Sithammdhara in Visakhapatnam in his honour. The Minister recalled the greatness of the freedom fighter who fought against the British tyranny in the Agency areas in the district and for being one of the first few leaders to spearhead the freedom movement in the State.

The Minister reiterated and said that as part of the ongoing district reorganisation in the State, the newly formed district of Visakhapatnam would be named after Alluri Sitarama Raju. He called for people to take inspiration from Alluri's great life, which was selfless and dedicated to the society.

He spoke about Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's decision to remove belt shops from the state as a great move. Expressing confidence, he said that after implementation of the Amma Vodi scheme, Andhra Pradesh would soon be the number one state in literacy

Alluri Jayanti celebrations were conducted by YSR Congress Party Visakha Northern Constituency Coordinator KK Raju in the city. Yalamanchili MLA Kanna Babu and YSRCP leaders Chokkakula Venkata Rao, Satthi Ramakrishna Reddy, Prembabu and Bakim Shyamkumar Reddy participated in the celebrations.
