ACs Stop Functioning, AP Express Passengers Stranded At Rajahmundry

Rajamahendravaram: The New Delhi-Visakhapatnam AP Express came to a halt for nearly three hours on Sunday afternoon at the Rajahmundry railway station leaving around 550-odd passengers stranded.

Passengers complained about the air-conditioners not functioning in the train and demanded the Railway authorities to fix the issue at the earliest.

The AP Express, which is fully air-conditioned, as per the schedule, arrives at the Rajahmundry railway station at 1.53 pm and resumes after a two-minute halt. Staging a protest against the non-functioning of ACs at the railway station, the passengers of a few AC compartments alleged that the ACs were not functioning properly since the express train left New Delhi. The situation turned drastic when the passengers mobbed the guard of the express train and even barged into the station manager's cabin demanding that the AC units be immediately repaired.

Owing to the improper functioning of ACs at Bhopal, Nagpur and Vijayawada railway stations, the passengers stated that they underwent severe inconvenience and lashed out at the railway authorities for failing to ensure a comfortable journey despite charging the fee for the AC compartments.

Following this incident, the South Central Railway released a statement mentioning that the failure of both power cars of the New Delhi - Visakhapatnam AP Express resulting in the ACs not functioning. The AP Express was terminated at the Rajahmundry railway station since there was no other alternative to provide AC in the compartments.

According to the statement, a special train was later arranged from Rajahmundry to Visakhapatnam for the stranded passengers ensuring no further inconvenience to the passengers in boarding with their luggage. After all the arrangements were done and the passengers boarding was completed, the special train departed for Visakhapatnam around 5.50 pm. Divisional Railway Manager P Srinivas appreciated the efforts of the railway staff for making special arrangements for the stranded passengers within a short time.
