Andhra Police Come To The Rescue Of 233 Child Labourers
Srikakulam: In a raid conducted by the child protection officials at Ichchapuram mandal last week, around 15 child labourers, which included 14 girls were rescued.
The official records state that 63 child labourers including 37 girls were rescued in the first week of June from Srikakulam. Officials from District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Child Protection stated that four cases have been registered against guilty store owners and notices have been served to others. Also, the children, who were rescued were handed over to their parents. As a part of the investigation, the rescued children and their parents were also produced before the child welfare committee.
The DCPU officials are covering two mandals every day during the special drives conducted under the ‘State action month against child labour' with the support of the police department. The drive which also included officials from the Education, Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU), National Child Labour Project (NCLP), will continue until this month-end. So far, 79 child labourers, of which 41 girls and 39 boys have been rescued across the district.
Of the children rescued in the month of May, 23 of the 154 children have been admitted in government-run Bala Sadans, 11 were admitted in childcare institutes, 50 others, who are learned to be school dropouts, were handed over to the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan officials.
