Cyclone Fani Intensifies: Heavy Rainfall Likely In Vizianagaram, Srikakulam
Visakhapatnam: The Cyclone Fani is heading towards North Andhra Pradesh. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has updated the maximum wind speeds up to a ferocious 190 km per hour gusting to 210 km per hour on Wednesday morning.
The cyclone has now intensified into an extremely severe cyclone as it is expected to hit the Odisha coast on Friday. Its impact will be on the Coastal Andhra districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam. According to the forecast, heavy rainfall is likely to be witnessed in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts. The National Disaster Management Authority has issued a notification explaining the precautions so that the public will stay alert during the cyclone.
The Eastern Naval Command of the Indian Navy announced on Tuesday that their teams are ready to participate in the rescue missions at the coastal areas. The Indian Navy has been alert to provide logistical support for medical facilities, providing full support for people in storm-affected areas. Naval officials said Indian warships are ready to be taken up in Visakhapatnam and Chennai.
Additional necessities such as clothing, rubber boats, food items, temporary items, drugs, mattresses are ready to be provided. In addition, Tamil Nadu officials also informed that Aircrafts are also ready to be installed at INS Rajali naval air stations. Apart from this, Gemini boats, along with diving crews, have been deployed. Navy officials clarified that the Eastern Navy will be monitoring the operations.
