Tension Brews In Amaravati After Stand-off Between Farmers, Cops

Amaravati: Tension gripped the area around the Secretariat here as a farmer, Meera Prasad refused to part with his land for the laying of a road and was subsequently arrested by the police. It is widely known that the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) had acquired thousands of acres of fertile land for the construction of the new capital city. The CRDA is now laying roads in the capital region and it was in this context that Gadde Meera Prasad refused to give his land resulting in a stand-off with the authorities.

The CRDA officials called the Tulluru police who swung into action and tried to drive Meera Prasad away from the scene. The farmer, whose shirt got torn in the jostling between the ryots and policemen, staged a sit-in and was joined by his relatives, sympathisers and several YSRCP leaders
