Massive Fire Breaks Out At Asian Paints Manufacturing Unit In Vizag

Visakhapatnam: Fire engulfed the Asian Paints manufacturing unit at the Atchutapuram Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Vizag on Monday causing a panic situation. The incident took place in Pudi as the fire ensued to a massive explosion near tanks and caused dense clouds of smoke in the area.

As per the reports, around 150 workers were in the unit during the incident and rushed out in panic after the explosion took place. Sources confirmed that no one sustained any injuries in the mishap.

Several fire tenders reached the spot and deployed immediately into action. Eight fire tenders from the Fire Department, RINL, Laura Labs, HPCL Visakh Refinery, APIIC and NTPC Simhadri were mobilised to douse the fire. According to a report by Eenadu, five of the eight tanks where chemicals were stored, exploded due to the fire and the damage caused in the incident is being estimated close to Rs 1 crore.

Later, the higher authorities inspected the manufacturing facility and observed that the explosion may have been caused due to the mishandling of the chemicals by untrained personnel.

TDP MLA candidate for Yelamanchili, Panchakarla Ramesh Babu along with several other local leaders and officials also visited the unit after the explosion.
