Anantapur Engineering Dropout Travels 11 States Without Spending A Penny
Anantapur: Without spending a single penning, an Engineering dropout from Anantapur managed to travel to 11 states.
The 24-year-old man, identified as Vimal Kumar ventured on a unique journey three years ago. In the duration of nine months, Vimal traveled 11 states including the six southern states and Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Assam, Nagaland, and West Bengal.
Hitch-hiking rides on trains, trucks, buses, cars, and motorcycles during his travel, Vimal began his tour on July 1, 2016. Sharing his experience to news agency News18, Vimal was quoted saying, “Coming from a middle-class family and not knowing where to travel, I left my home empty-pocket.
I slept at railway platforms, camps. I struggled to get food most of the times. Nevertheless, I got good free-rides as well. I have done it all.”
With the dreams of traveling the world, he further said, “Journey teaches us a lot. I got a lot of helping hands who knew nothing about me. As engineering drop out, I told my mom that I was going to follow my dreams.
She believed in me, but many were against my decision. I left with just two sets of clothes, camera, mobile phone, and a first-aid kit. And when I returned home I had everything I carried and an additional bag.”
To take care of his travel expenses, he organized a fundraising campaign by the name - Buy a tea from a seasoned traveler. For the past three years, Vimal has been selling tea and buttermilk in Bangalore.
Now, he intends to undertake a world tour and has so far gathered Rs 50,000 through crowdfunding.
