Vizag IAS Officer’s Budget For Son’s Wedding Will Shock You
Visakhapatnam: Indian weddings are known for their lavish style of celebrations. Setting a contrasting trend, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from Visakhapatnam has decided to opt for an economical wedding.
The Commissioner of Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA), Patnala Basanth Kumar is spending a total amount of Rs 18,000 on his son's wedding.
Scheduled to take place on February 10 in Dayalsingh Nagar of Visakhapatnam, the wedding will have the families of the bridegroom and bride contribute Rs. 18,000 each on the ceremony.
The amount includes the lunch for the guests with Rs 1000 allotted for a priest and Rs 500 for a professional cook. Previously in 2017, Mr Kumar had hosted his daughter's wedding where he spent just Rs 16,100.
Several VIPs including Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Governor ESL Narasimhan will be attending the wedding to bless the couple, Abhinav Kumar Manas and Lavanya Nidamanuri.
Abhinav Kumar is a bank manager while Lavanya Nidamanuri is a practising doctor.
Basanth Kumar, earlier served as Officer on Special Duty and Joint Secretary to Governor Narasimhan and was promoted to IAS cadre in 2012.
While the simple wedding is garnering appreciation from all quarters, the invitation card requests guests not to give any bouquets or gifts and only bless the couple.
Speaking to a newspaper, Mr Kumar said that he is spending Rs 7.50 for snacks per head while the vegetables for the meals are being provided by families of Radhasoami Satsang, a spiritual community popular for its simple lifestyle. The community members grow the vegetables in their gardens. Nearly 200 Satsang families from the Dayalsingh Nagar locality will take part in the preparations of the wedding.
