Farmer Attempts Suicide In Chandrababu’s Meeting

Kurnool: Even as the town police had turned Kurnool into their fortress from Friday evening to provide security to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's Dharma Porata Deeksha, there were many scenes of protests and even blocking of CM’s convoy all across the town. Later, a farmer attempted suicide in the meeting venue, while Chandrababu was addressing the gathering.

The farmer's suicide attempt shook everyone at the meeting and disturbed the TDP workers who had come to participate in the Deeksha. Farmer Boya Rangadu (35) attempted suicide in protest against the local TDP leaders. Rangadu belongs to Bodepadu village in Gonegandla mandal of Kurnool district. He alleged that the TDP leaders were in involved in illegal sand mining and were digging up sand across his bore well which was leading to water being dried in the well. In protest against the leaders, he attempted suicide in the presence of AP CM.

Rangadu has two acres of land which he cultivates and makes a living. The farm land is on the banks of Handree river. He got a bore well dug in his land. But a local TDP leader Gudepala Kurregiddi has been involved in illegal sand mining, and while digging up the sand from the river, he also dug up the sand next to Rangadu's bore well.

Rangadu had lodged complaints many times with Gonegandla Tahsildhar as well as local police station in vain. Instead, his brother was thrashed by TDP leader Karregiddi on Friday. On earlier occasion also, the TDP leader's followers had created havoc near Rangadu's house. With the TDP leader's atrocities going out of control, Rangadu had come to Kurnool on Saturday to pour out his woes to the AP CM.

In Kurnool, Rangadu purchased pesticide and then went to CM's meeting. While he was trying to go near the CM's to tell about his problems, the police stopped him and assaulted him. Disappointed by this, Rangadu immediately consumed the pesticide that he was carrying with him and tried to commit suicide. The police immediately shifted him to Kurnool government hospital. His position is said to be critical.
