Muslim Associations Protest Against Jaleel Khan

Vijayawada: Tension prevailed in city's One Town area at Jumma Masjid centre over Wakf Board chairman Jaleel Khan's attempt to grab Masjid land worth Rs 100 crores.

Protesting against Jaleel Khan's move, various Muslim associations along with CPI staged a protest near the Masjid land.

The protestors raised slogans against Jaleel Khan. Noticing the situation was getting out of control, the police arrested CPI leaders, Muslim minorities and NGO representatives.

Even the protest went on even after the arrival of police and protestors were forcibly dragged into the police van which led to a commotion at the Jumma Masjid area. There were tense moments for a long time. With serious protests from Muslim associations, Jaleel Khan who was planning to lease out the land at a cheap rate backed out.

With pressure mounting against him from the government also, the Wakf Board chairman called for a sudden press conference today and said that Jumma Masjid land lease tender was cancelled.
