Polavaram Re-tendering Will Cut Costs, Ensure Transparency
Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh minister for water resources, Anil Kumar Yadav announced that once the water levels in Godavari recede, the state government would take up work on the Polavaram project. He also said that the process of calling for tenders and sanctioning work would be done in a transparent manner, in contrast to the corruption with which the process was riddled during the TDP era. The minister addressed media men when he visited Prakasam Barrage to monitor the situation there, along with his cabinet colleagues, Botsa Satyanarayana, Perni Nani, Vellampalli Srinivas and Kodali Nani. Anil Kumar Yadav pointed out that during Chandrababu's tenure, work amounting to Rs. 10,000 crores was handed to private contractors/firms and that the entire process reeked of corruption.
Anil Kumar Yadav further said that the YSRCP government under chief minister, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was determined to save public money. He added that re-tendering would lead to reduction of basic price.
The minister's stated that 8 lakh cusecs of water was being released from Prakasam Barrage and that all steps were being taken to ensure that there was no loss of lives and minimise damage to property. Chief Minister who is in the US, was in constant touch with them with regard to the situation on the ground, they said.
The team of cabinet ministers clarified that every single farmer would be compensated for his loss. They directed officials to ensure that to check the outbreak of epidemics.
Anil Kumar Yadav flayed Chandrababu Naidu and his son, Nara Lokesh saying that they were unable to come to terms with the drubbing they received at the hands of the people. Sitting in the comfort of their houses away from flood-affected areas, they were indulging in a mudslinging campaign against the government. He pointed out that due to his poor flood management Chandrababu as CM, could not prevent the submersion of Srisailam power project in 1998.
Anil Kumar Yadav further said that had a similar flood situation taken place under the TDP, they would have claimed and looted more than Rs. 100 crores after lifting the gates of Srisailam, Pulichintala and Nagarjuna Sagar gates.
