TDP Govt Wasted Public Money By Purchasing Excess Power Unnecessarily

Vijayawada: Although the Andhra Pradesh power sector has been hit with a fund crunch, a report in a leading daily pointed out that the previous TDP regime had wasted public money by purchasing power in excess even when the demand was not there.

Accessing data from government sources, the daily pointed out that the peak power demand over the last 5 years never crossed 10,200 MW.

The demand was as follows:

2015-16: 7,391 MW

2016-17: 7,965 MW

2017-18: 8,983 MW

2018-19: 9,453 MW

2019-20 (Till July 19): 10,170 MW

The TDP government because of purchasing excess electricity has put a total burden of Rs 5,497 crore that has cost the state exchequer.

According to AP Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC), the surplus was 642 million kwh in 2015-16, 10,473 kwh in 2016-17, 12,014 million kwh in 2017-18 and 7,629 in 2018-19, the leading daily pointed out.
