Education in AP Gets A Boost Under YS Jagan

Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government headed by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday in a bid to give push to education gave the highest allocation of around 14.31 per cent of the total Budget, or Rs 32,618 crore, to general education. This is almost 34.87 per cent higher than last year.

The government's flagship programme, Amma Vodi scheme that has been renamed to Jagananna Amma Vodi, has been allocated Rs 6,455 crore.

Jagananna Amma Vodi scheme aims to give financial backing to families for sending their wards to schools and intermediate colleges. It will provide Rs 15,000 per annum to mothers who send their children to educational institutions. The fee reimbursement scheme has been renamed Jagananna Vidya Deevena.

Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath while presenting the state budget for 2019-20 in the assembly said, “The Chief Minister was initially reluctant on naming a scheme after him. But we persuaded him to agree. Amma Vodi which is first of its kind scheme in the country has been conceptualised by him."

He also stated that their government sought to move away from 'income-less and meaningless' double-digit growth to usher in 'household income-based growth and development.'

The Finance Minister also allotted Rs 1,500 crore each for development of infrastructure in schools and hospitals.
