Ongole Rape Victim To Get 5 Lakh Compensation
Undavalli: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy enquired about the Ongole gang rape incident, which rocked the state recently. Speaking at the 2-Day Collectors Conference held in Undavalli on Tuesday, he asked the Prakasam district Superintendent of Police Siddharth Kaushal about the details of the case. The SP had mentioned that they had caught the accused within a span of 24 hours. YS Jagan lauded the efforts of the police for catching them within a short span.
He instructed Home Minister M Sucharitha to grant compensation to the victim. She said that a sum of Rs 5 lakh would be given to her. YS Jagan said that state government should be generous with regards to the compensation amount.
A minor girl was allegedly gang-raped by six persons in Ongole town. The 17-year-old girl, who hails from Nellapadu village in Guntur, was held captive for four days. The incident also stirred up a row over safety of women in the state with Home Minister Mekathoti Sucharita promising stern action.She instructed the district SP to take stern action against the accused."This is a heinous crime and we will take deterrent steps to ensure such incidents did not recur," said the Home Minister. A case under different sections of POCSO Act 2012 and IPC was registered against the accused.
