Srikakulam: Speculations are strife that the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) will appoint Srikakulam MP Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu as the new state president of TDP in Andhra Pradesh. The appointment is expected to be announced by the TDP Chief N Chadnrababu Naidu in a few days. Kimidi Kala Venkat Rao who is the current state party president was defeated in the recent elections in Yechherla from Srikakulam District.

With the dismal performance by the TDP in the 2019 elections ,Chandrababu hopes that the appointment of Ram Mohan Naidu who is a member of the BC community, might be good for the party prospects. In the recent Lok Sabha elections, Ram Mohan Naidu won from the Srikakulam constituency by a meagre margin of 6,653 votes. L Ramana meanwhile continues as Telangana state TDP president.

In the Lok Sabha session after the Speaker Om Birla was unanimously elected, Ram Mohan Naidu spoke on behalf of the party to congratulate the Speaker. The TDP's strength in the party had reduced from fifteen (2014) to three members now. The TDP MP Ram Mohan Naidu, speaking in chaste Hindi requested the Speaker and said that, "though their strength has certainly reduced in the house, please don't reduce our time in the Lok Sabha and that they would continue fighting for the cause of the state and their respective constituency's".
