YS Vijayamma’s Emotional Moment After YS Jagan Crowned AP CM
Vijayawada: Shortly after he was sworn in as the new chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy reaffirmed his commitment to welfare governance through Navaratnalu.
After concluding is speech, he went up to his mother YS Vijayamma who hugged him and burst into tears. Seeing her get emotional, YS Jagan gently wiped her tears as he embraced her. This emotional moment brought tears to the eyes of onlookers and thousands of people gathered at the stadium. The oath taking ceremony, YS Jagan speech and the entire event was streamed live by multiple television channels and huge LED screens both inside and outside the Indira Gandhi municipal stadium in Vijayawada. The spectators were touched by the mother-son bonding in an emotional moment on the big screen.
The scene had special significance also because of the hardships which Dr YSR's family was subjected to after his untimely demise in September 2009. It may be recalled that YS Vijayamma and daughter Sharmila tried to prevail upon the then Congress president Sonia Gandhi to allow YS Jagan to go on his Odarpu Yatra meant to console families of people who had committed suicide or died of shock upon hearing the news of the tragic demise of their beloved leader Dr YSR. They felt humiliated even when this request was turned down by Sonia Gandhi. worse was to follow. YS Jagan was imprisoned for 16 months and was denied bail which was his constitutional right. Several false cases were foisted upon him by a vindictive congress in collusion with TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu. After YS Jagan broke away from the Congress and established YSR Congress Party, he contested the 2014 elections taking on the combined might of TDP, BJP riding a Modi wave and Jana Sena.
YSRCP got 67 seats. Significantly the voter share of the ruling TDP was only 1.25% more. The people's leader took up his mass contact initiative Praja Sankalpa Yatra over 14 months beginning on November 6, 2017. After understanding the problems of the poor, he came up with a people-friendly manifesto.
Today, by grace of God and blessings of millions of people in Andhra Pradesh, YS Jagan became the youngest chief minister of the residuary state. Seeing him reach the pinnacle of success and after having lost her husband who was also a chief minister in tragic circumstances, Vijayamma broke down only to be consoled by her chief minister son.
