Chandrababu To Face Off Mighty YSRCP As Opposition Leader
Amaravati: TDP legislators elected N Chandrababu Naidu as the leader of their legislative party in a meeting held here on Wednesday. This puts an end to the speculation that he might opt out of the position as he is badly embarrassed with party’s poor showing in the elections.
There has been a buzz for quite some time in the party that Chandrababu is completely distraught with senior leaders of the party biting the dust and told them that he would not take up the role as he doesn’t want to face YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in the Assembly. It is said that he is particularly embarrassed by the fact that he doesn’t want to face a young politician YS Jagan who would be heading the House. Chandrababu is also believed to have told leaders that he is contemporary of YS Jagan’s father YS Rajasekhara Reddy, and hence he would not be up for role.
As a result, discussion emerged in the party that a senior leader could be given the opportunity. Lengthy discussions followed and some aspirants came up. However, Chandrababu chimed in and positioned himself as leader of the legislative party, doing a volte-face on his own decision. The reason for the change in Chandrababu’s decision is said to have been prompted by fact that the party may further degenerate lest other leaders take his place.
On the other hand, it is also being said that Chandrababu’s opting out of the role would be seen as abdication of responsibility at a time when party is in crisis. It would be interesting to see how this scenario will play out in the days to come in the Assembly with Chandrababu facing a strong House led by a young leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
