Special Category For AP Dominates YS Jagan-Modi Talks
New Delhi: Terming as positive the one-hour long meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister-designate Sri YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the dire economic situation and the need for Special Category Status (SCS) took the prime time of summit meeting.
Speaking to media after the meeting, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has said, ‘the Prime Minister gave a patient hearing and looked positive during the meeting in which the state of affairs was briefed to him. Though NDA has a clear mandate and has absolute majority on its own and does not need our support, we have asked him to be magnanimous in helping the state that is orphaned with the bifurcation and was pushed into a debt trap by the mal-governance of the previous government.
SCS is the lifeline and necessary for the state. Despite my silent prayer to deprive the Centre of absolute majority, there was an overwhelming mandate for the NDA and what we could do now is to pursue the issue in a sustained manner and keep on prodding the issue whenever and wherever we meet the Prime Minister.
The debt burden of the state is very high and it has increased from Rs 97, 000 crores in 2014 to Rs 2.58 lakh crores now shattering the financial position which was told to the Prime Minister and I hope that he would show the magnanimity to helping us in every possible way, he said.
The Prime Minister listened to my narrative and was very positive and I hope that it would yield results in the coming days.
The Chief Minister designate and YSR Congress President had met Prime Minister and BJP President Sri Amit Shah apprising them of the situation in the state that has empty coffers, heavy debt and little prospects of development.
The SCS was promised on the floor of the house and was approved by the Cabinet which has become an executive decision and the talk of 14thFinance Commission and other such lame excuses were proved wrong. We merit the SCS which was announced in lieu of foregoing Hyderabad where all the development and resources are highly concentrated.
Perhaps this is the first time that a state seeking bifurcation could take away the capital with and Andhra Pradesh stood at a loss on fronts. It is for this reason that we deserve SCS which will get exemptions and investments which will propel job opportunities to the youth.
On the corruption charges and irregularities of Chandrababu Naidu government, he said there would be a review and white papers would be released after a detailed study. We will ensure that there will be a corruption free governance and we will show to people the model of good governance, he said.
Completion of Polavaram project is important for the state and will explore all means to complete it and we will go for reverse tenders if needed.
He said that only he will take oath on May 30 and the team would be inducted later.
