Rayadurg Constituency In Anantapur: TDP Minister Could Go Home

Kalava Srinivasulu - Sakshi Post

Rayadurg constituency is on the Karnataka border in Anantapur district and was represented by TDP leader and minister Kalava Srinivasulu. He is up against former MLA Kapu Ramachandra Reddy of the YSR Congress Party and May 23rd will determine his fate, but as things stand, the TDP minister faces an uphill task.

Voters seem to have swung the other way judging by the pattern of voting and the response the candidates got during the election campaign. Voters came out in large numbers and this time around polling went up to 86.03% compared to 84.53% in 2014.

Kalava Srinivasulu is a non-local and found the going tough this time around. There are several reasons for this. One of the principal factors for the serious challenge he faces and resentment from voters comes from the anger in the Boya community. While campaigning for the 2014 elections, Kalava Srinivasulu had promised members of the Boya community that it would be included in the list of ST groups.

He would surely have known at that time that this was a tall order. Now, his 2014 promise has come to recoil on him. Boyas were cheated on this count, and the rest of the constituency suffered from neglect as well. Stories of the minister’s involvement in all-round corruption have dented his image among his constituents and locals are seething with anger on several issues including indiscriminate sand mining.

Groupism in the TDP has not helped Kalava Srinivasulu either. Some of his close associates have crossed over to the YSRCP, strengthening Kapu Ramachandra Reddy’s cause. In this case, it is quite clear which way the chips “fault with the TDP minister most likely to pack his bags.
