AP IAS Officials Fume Over TDP’s Attacks On Chief Secretary
Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh IAS Officers' Association met at the Haritha Hotel in Punnami Ghat here on Tuesday to discuss the pressure exerted on IAS officials by politicians. The officers also discussed the inappropriate remarks made by chief minister Chandrababu Naidu against the chief secretary, LV Subramanyam.
Many IAS officials in the state are said to be unhappy with the chief minister's criticism of bureaucrats and the AP Chief Electoral Officer, Gopalakrishna Dwivedi.
It may be recalled that the Election Commission replaced the previous incumbent, Anil Chandra Punetha with LV Subramanyam on the eve of elections. This action by EC came in the wake of the state government retaining DG Intelligence AB Venkateswara Rao without transferring him to headquarters and keeping him away from election duties as ordered by the Election Commission of India. Instead, the AP government issued a second GO keeping the officer in question outside the purview of the EC, inviting the Commission's action.
Continuing the TDP's tirade against the chief secretary, finance minister, Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, is reported to have criticised the officer faulting him for his reviews. However, retired IAS officials were quick to point out that the chief secretary was not only well within his rights to conduct reviews, but that the entire machinery of the state government was under his direct control when the Model Code is in force.
