S V Mohan Reddy (YSRCP) is the present MLA of Kurnool Legislative Assembly. He defeated the TDP candidate local industrialist T G Venkatesh in 2014 assembly elections by a narrow margin , but the YSRCP flag was erected with the 2014 elections.

This time the TG Venkatesh's son TG Bharath was given the ticket and he is pitted against first -time entrant Hafeez Khan of the YSRCP.

Bharath is the son of Rajya Sabha MP TG Venkatesh and on the other hand, Mr. Khan is a first-time contestant.

Hafeez Khan, who is a Masters in Computer Engineering from the US had also started his own company there before coming back to India. He comes from a family of philanthropists where his maternal and paternal grandfathers have donated lands and money for the purpose of helping the poor people.

The call for giving back to society and developing the fortunes of Kurnool brought him back to India. Hafeez Khan has conducted many health camps and other social services for the people of Kurnool district.

He has also endeared himself to the youth and has extensively toured the district finding out the problems there. With the support of the incumbent SV Mohan Reddy and the Muslim minorities, there is a strong possibility of YSRCP winning for the second time in Kurnool in the 2019 Assembly Elections. Moreover, a big factor in his favour is the anti-incumbency sweeping across the state against the TDP.
