3.93 Crore Voters In Andhra Pradesh
Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh, where simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections are scheduled next month, has over 3.93 crore voters with more than 23 lakh voters being added since January, official said on Monday.
The election authorities announced that as on March 24, the state has a total of 3,93,12,192 voters. While nearly 25.21 lakh voters enrolled themselves since January 11, about 1.42 lakh were deleted from the electoral rolls.
Among the 13 districts, East Godavari has the largest number of voters at 42.04 lakh while Vizianagaram has the lowest number of voters at 18.18 lakh.
Elections to the 175-member state Assembly and all the 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state are scheduled in a single phase on April 11.
Earlier this month, the state witnessed an unprecedented situation with the election authorities receiving nearly 10 lakh applications for deletion of voters' names from the electoral roles. The authorities, however, rejected most of the applications.
As many as 446 cases were registered against those who submitted false applications for deletion of voters' names.
The main opposition, YSR Congress Party, had alleged that the state had as many as 59 lakh bogus voters. (IANS)
