A Triangular Fight Between YSRCP, TDP and JSP - Sakshi Post

Narsapuram /West Godavari: Narsapuram Parliamentary Constituency ( General ) is located in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. As per the estimates of 2011 census, out of total 1779935 population 73.65% is rural and 26.35% is urban.

As per the voter list of 2018, there are 12,56,109 voters and 1388 polling stations in this constituency. Voter turnout in the 2014 Parliamentary election was 82.19% whereas it was 84.47% in 2009 Parliamentary Election.

The BJP, the INC and the YSRCP got 49.62%, 2.49% and 41.78% votes respectively in 2014-parliamentary election while The BJP, the INC and the TDP got 1.2%, 39.3% and 27.72% in 2009-parliamentary election respectively.

Gokaraju Ganga Raju (BJP) is the present Lok Sabha MP of Narsapuram Parliamentary Constituency.

Narasapuram Lok Sabha constituency comprises the following Legislative Assembly segments of Achanta, Palakol, Narasapuram, Bhimavaram, Undi and Tanuku, Tadepalligudem.

The constituency had earlier been a Congress stronghold and returned the party five times in a row from 1962 to 1980 before the TDP claimed it four successive times. But in 2014 Gokaraju Gangaraju of the BJP in a seat-sharing pact with TDP, won the seat defeating YSRCP’s Vanka Ravindranath by 85,351 votes. The BJP has dropped Gangaraju for the upcoming election and has replaced him with former Minister Pydikondala Manikyala Rao, who earlier represented Tadepalligudem Assembly constituency.

YSRCP candidate Raghurama Krishnam Raju an industrialist is considered to be the strongman of West Godavari district from Andhra Pradesh’s West Godavari district. He started his political career with the YSRCP. He is pitted against TDP candidate Vetukuri Venkata Siva Rama Raju. Siva Rama Raju is a two-time MLA from Undi but whether he will prove to be a strong contender as the TDP claims or will concede electoral space to Jana Sena remains to be seen.

Jana Sena Party candidate Konidela Nagendra Babu ( Naga Babu), the elder brother of JSP leader Pawan Kalyan, recently joined the party and was given the party MP ticket for Narasapuram.

A newcomer to politics Naga Babu will have to take on two heavy weights who are not only locals but are popular. Both belong to the Kshtariya community who are in large numbers in the West Godavari region.
