Y.V.Subba Reddy (YSRCP) is the present Lok Sabha MP of Ongole Parliamentary Constituency
MLC Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy who quit the TDP and joined the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) recently has been named the YSRCP candidate for the Ongole Parliamentary Constituency.
Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy a three time MP and senior political figure from the Prakasam district has considerable hold over the Ongole region. The major problem in the region is the Naxal movement, which has continued over the years. Economic growth too has been impacted due to this.
Issues:
Prakasam district has a coastline of over 100 km which can be developed to improve economic growth. There is major scope to build a port at Ramayapatnam in Prakasam district as the site is suitable for the construction of a major port.
The setting up of the National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) Donakonda industrial city and other projects are still in a nascent stage.
Though the district had been left out with regards to establishment of higher education institutions both by the Center and State governments.
The Veligonda irrigation project, a longstanding demand of Prakasam people to find a permanent solution to the fluoride problem remains a distant dream despite change of governments.
The YSR Congress Party has been fighting for the completion of the project since many years, as it will serve the drought-stricken district. Last year YSRCP Ongole MP YV Subba Reddy had staged a massive protest, one among many, for the completion of the project.
Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy has a strong base in Ongole. Coupled with YSRCP popularity in the place his win here could be an easy one.
He will be pitted against Environment and Forests Minister Sidda Raghava Rao who has been chosen as the TDP candidate and Bellamkonda Saibaba, the Jana Sena Party candidate for the Ongole Parliamentary Constituency.
