Note For Vote Case: Time Line Of Events
Hyderabad: The investigation into the Note for Vote case is currently being undertaken by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) Assistant Director Rajashekar,coupled with information from the Income Tax department and Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
The case hit the headlines following a video showing former TDP MLA A Revanth Reddy who was seen bribing TRS nominated MLA Stephenson and also an audio tape that went viral, highlighting Chandrababu Naidu's reported role in the scam.
The probe has witnessed several twists and turns , with the latest being a new 11- minute video showing one of the main accused Sebastian, promising the MLA Rs 5 Crore instead of Rs 3.5 Crore.
Here is a chronology of events which unfolded after the Vote for Note Case broke out.
- Election to the Telangana Legislative Council under MLAs' quota from the Assembly constituency was scheduled for June 1 to fill six vacancies. -
-The Telugu Desam Party wanted their candidate Ex MLA Vem Narendar to contest in the elections.
- Since the TDP wanted their candidate to win, they tried to bribe the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MLAs to vote for him.
- TDP MLA Revanth Reddy under instructions from the party high command tried to give a bribe of Rs 50 lakh to nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson to vote in favour of the TDP nominee in Legislative Council elections.
- Revanth Reddy and those seen in the video including Sebastian, Malcolm Taylor in whose house the deal took place were caught red handed and arrested by the ACB..
- In July 2015 A case was registered under Section 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 120-B of the IPC by the Telangana ACB ,where Revanth Reddy was named as A1 and Udaya Simha was named A2 along with Sandra Venkata Veeraiah , Sebastian and Mattayaa who were also named in the charge sheet.
- The IT department had raided Revanth Reddy and the houses of the other accused and the CBI officials subsequently transferred the case to the ED.
- In 2018 the IT department raided Sebastian's house in Ameerpet.
- In September 2018, Revanth Reddy's house, along with that of his close relatives, was raided by the Income Tax authorities.
- In October 2018, just before the Telangana Elections the houses of Udaya Simha and Revanth Reddy's brother Kondal Reddy's were raided by the IT department officials.
- In February 2019 the Enforcement Directorate stepped up pace in the Vote-For-Note case where, notices to A. Revanth Reddy, his associates, Udayasimha and V. Narender Reddy were issued after registering a fresh case under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) of 2002.
- ED questioned former MLA Vem Narendar Reddy and his two sons Krishna Keerthan and Krishna Bhargav about the source of the Rs 50 lakhs which were seized from Revanth Reddy.
- Revanth Reddy’s aide Udaya Simha a civil contractor was also grilled in connection with the Vote-For-Note case about the source of the Rs 50 lakh cash.
- The main accused and the current TPCC working president and former Kodangal MLA A Revanth Reddy is being questioned by the ED sleuths.
- March 5,2019 the ED sends fresh summons to Stephenson, Malcom Taylor, former TDP MLA ( now in the TRS) Sandra Venkata Veerayya to appear before them.
- March 7, 2019 a new 11- minute video surfaced which showed one of the accused Sebastian carrying out negotiations with Stephenson, luring him with Rs 5 crore to vote for the TDP Candidate in the 2015 MLC election.
