Pawan Kalyan Fans Vandalise Konda Reddy Fort To Witness The Star
The Konda Reddy Fort, a National Monument, was left damaged and vandalized by fans of the cine-star turnedpolitician Pawan Kalyan at a meeting held by the party on Sunday evening.
More than a thousand people barged into the fort’s premises scaling its walls and barricades. Over 200 flower pots, a staircase and benches were found damaged and steel railings twisted. The loss is estimated at around Rs 1 lakh. A case has been filed in the Two Town Police Station.
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) had said that the 12th-century monument, already in a weak state, could cave in if subjected to such rough use. An ASI Official had expressed his surprise that the Konda Reddy Fort was chosen as the venue of the meeting. The ASI demanded to know who granted the permission to hold the meeting near the fort.
Among the many damaged facilities at the fort were the lawn and the tubelights. The fort has 5 people hired to take care of its upkeep. 10 more employees were hired on a temporary basis only to tackle the incoming crowd for the meeting. “We were no match for them,” said an ASI Oficial, and also alleged that there were only two policemen sent to help, who were found lazing around and doing next to nothing about the crowd.
It was an irony to here Pawan Kalyan speaking high of the Konda Reddy Fort in his speech. He said had the Konda Reddy Fort been in Greece or France, it could have become a heritage structure.
