YS Jagan-KTR Meeting, A Move Towards Fight For Rights Of States

Hyderabad: Leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh legislative assembly and YSR Congress Party President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had a meeting with senior Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader K. Tarakarama Rao (KTR). The YSRCP chief asserted that numerical strength of parliamentarians will help states to fight for their rights. He observed that if all the MPs of both the states demand Special Category Status it can be achieved.

YS Jagan clarified that this meeting set the preliminary round of discussions in motion and that further talks would take place once the Telangana chief minister visits Andhra Pradesh. He added that KTR had discussed with him, the issue of injustice to states at length. The TRS leader also elaborated on the need for regional parties to come together, to stand up the injustice being done to states, he said.

The YSRCP chief cited the instance of SCS to Andhra Pradesh and pointed out that if 25 MPs of AP and 17 from Telangana voiced the demand, reminding the Centre of the promise made on the floor of the parliament, the state will stand to gain immensely.

YS Jagan observed that KCR is attempting to creating a platform for political parties at the national level to bring regional parties together in order to fight for the rights of states. He added that KCR had called him up and said that he would visit Andhra Pradesh and take the discussions forward. These preliminary discussions would then acquire a firmer shape, he said.

Echoing the sentiments expressed by YS Jagan, KTR expressed the view that when he sought to meet the YSRCP chief for discussions on the Federal Front, as advised by his father and the Telangana chief minister, YS Jagan invited him over. KTR said that like-minded forces should come together to stand up against injustice being done to states and that national politics should meet the aspirations of the people of the states.

KTR also stated clearly that the TRS had backed the demand for Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh. The TRS has been clear and consistent on the subject of SCS to AP. Kesava Rao of the TRS had backed the demand for SCS in Rajya Sabha and MP K. Kavitha had also supported it in the Lok Sabha, KTR pointed out.
