Akhilesh, Mayavati Skip Chandrababu’s Flop Oppn Meet

TDP chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu during a meeting of opposition parties - Sakshi Post

New Delhi: In a major shock to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, who boasted of bringing together all the anti-Modi political forces in the country, important leaders from the all-important Uttar Pradesh skipped the meeting he called for today. In the meeting organized by Chandrababu here today, former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav, Mulayam Singh Yadav and BSP President Mayavati were absent. Analysts infer the meeting's dismal show clearly mirrors the TDP chief's stature in national politics.

The development comes in circumstances after the yellow media promoted Chandrababu as a unifying leader of all the political parties opposing Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre. It is learnt that Akhilesh and Mulayam did not respond to Chandrababu's invite even after he had visited them personally at their residence.

If the proposed Mahagathbandhan were to face Modi in the Lok Sabha elections, all the non-BJP parties combine should secure victory in majority seats. And the performance of the opposition parties in the country's biggest State, Uttar Pradesh, becomes even more vital. With this, it remains doubtful whether the unification of the anti-BJP parties would be possible. Mayavati's BSP has a fair share of vote bank in northern India.

Opposition Leaders Chalk Out Plans For Parliament Session

Leaders from 14 non-BJP parties have attended the opposition alliance meeting called by the Congress. Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Bangla CM Mamata Banerjee, JDS president Deve Gowda, former PM Manmohan Singh, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and others attended the gathering. They discussed the strategy to be implemented in the Parliament's winter session, which commences Tuesday.
