No Entry To CBI In AP: Chandrababu Issues Notification

Chandrababu Naidu - Sakshi Post

Amaravati: In a sensational decision, the Andhra Pradesh government withdrew its consent for allowing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to intervene in the affairs of the State without its approval. Issuing a gazette notification in this respect, the State government barred the Central investigative agency from executing search operations without prior permission. In the notification, the Chandrababu Naidu government withdrew its earlier notification expressing its consent allowing the CBI to carry out raids in the State.

Except for the National Capital Region of Delhi, the CBI is entitled to take the consent of the State governments so as to perform its investigative operations within their territories. With the latest notification, the CBI is barred from investigating and raiding in the State, including questioning the Central government employees working in the State. The decision raises doubts in the context of the current political scenario.

Meanwhile, legal experts express the credibility of the notification within the legal framework amid Chandrababu's criticism of the CBI saying the agency's reputation took a hit with the recent controversy involving the suspension of its top officials. On the other side, the democrats argue that Chandrababu was wrong with the latest move after complaining of danger to democracy following CBI raids on his associates.

It is already known that the YSR Congress party (YSRCP) is batting for a probe by a Central agency into the attack on Leader of Opposition in AP Assembly and YSRCP Chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. While the Hyderabad High Court has already served notices to the Home ministry and the AP DGP, the YSRCP leaders urged Union Home minister Rajnath Singh and President Ramnath Kovind to ensure that justice is done in the matter. Condemning Chandrababu's attempts to sidetrack the case, the Opposition parties criticised his fear of the CBI investigation.

In stark contrast to Chandrababu's praise of the CBI in the past, the TDP Chief displayed his opportunistic ways, as also his fear of being investigated on diverse counts, by disallowing the CBI in the State, anaysts say. The people of the State, however, are concerned with Chandrababu's decision to shut the doors for the agency as fresh reports of high-scale corruption in the State emerge by the day.
