Probe Into Attack On YS Jagan, The Story So Far

Accused in the case Srinivasa Rao - Sakshi Post

Visakhapatnam: Ever since the unprecedented turn of events after the attack on Leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh Assembly and YSR Congress party (YSRCP) Chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in Visakhapatnam Airport, the Airport police station and its surroundings were abnormally crowded with police personnel, media and the locals on Sunday, when the Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Commissioner Mahesh Chandra Ladda and DCP Fakeerappah began the investigation in the matter. The locals in the police station's limits were witnessing a never-seen-before uproar in the area, which is generally a low crime rate region.

In the event of the six-day investigation in the attack on the AP Leader of Opposition, the print and television media representatives were keen on covering the developments from the Airport police station. The police officials, on the other hand, requested the media representatives from various TV channels and newspapers to co-operate with the investigation. When the accused Janupalli Srinivasa rao was brought to the police station at around 11:45 am on Sunday in a Rakshak vehicle, the media personnel competed with each other to click photos of him.

The investigation began at 12 pm in a special cell organised for the investigation by the SIT after Srinivasa Rao was shifted into the room amid police bundobust. Posing questions at the accused's colleague from Fusion Foods in the airport Rama Devi, friend Revathipathi and Flex print owner Chaitanya, the SIT began the investigation. Further, Srinivasa Rao tested the patience of the officials with his one-liners for every question. While the police brought friends of Srinivasa Rao into the station one after the other until afternoon, the assailant cited the letter found with him at the time of the incident as the answer to every question.

Biryani For Lunch

At around 2 pm, the SIT officials went back to their camp offices for lunch, while Srinivasa Rao was provided with chicken biryani as per his wish. Post-lunch, the officers were surprised with the confident responses he gave to the questions. Following the speed-up of the investigation in the afternoon session, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and Fusion Foods owner Harshvardhan was also called in by the police.

Speaking to media after the end of the day's investigation around 8 pm, Commissioner Ladda said that the call data and bank account details would be examined on Monday. It appears that the first day of investigation was unfruitful owing the reportedly irking behaviour of the accused.

On the other side, Airport police station CI Malla Sheshu pleaded with the media representatives for their co-operation during the investigation. "The police station premises are filled with the media personnel. This commotion is turning out to be troublesome for us. Please co-operate with us," he asked.

The CI further said that as per the directive of the Court, the investigation would go on for six days until November 2. Asked whether the accused Srinivasa Rao was co-operating with the SIT, he said that the officials were hopeful of extracting the required information from him.

YS Jagan Attack: Police Switch Their Mobile Phones Off

In a case of high-level security measures by the police, the SIT ordered all the officers, SIs and lower-rung cops involved in the probe to shut their phones off. The decision was taken in the wake of rumours around the leaks of insider information to the media.

Special Cell Organised For Probe On YS Jagan Attack

A special investigation cell has been set up in an empty building in the premises of the ACP office, which is near the police station. The special cell, which has facilities like access to computer, printer and other devices, would only be utilised for questioning the accused and not for protecting him due to security issues. Starting Monday, the special cell would be used as an investigation room.
